27-year-old man arrested for stalking Mumbai college student

According to the police, the accused has been identified as Dineshkumar Naik, a resident of RAK Marg in Sewri.

The Shivaji Park police have arrested a 27-year-old man for stalking a college student.

According to the police, the accused has been identified as Dineshkumar Naik, a resident of RAK Marg in Sewri.

The police said that the 21-year-old woman, who is also a resident of Sewri, was being

frequently followed by the accused.

An officer from Shivaji Park police station, requesting anonymity, said, “On August 2, the woman was on her way to classes when the accused followed her. The accused followed the woman to her classes every day till August 6.”

Later, Naik somehow managed to get the phone number of the victim and proposed to her on the phone on Monday.

“In the phone conversation, the accused said he has been seeing her for a while and said that even she had seen him. Following which, when the woman asked the reason for the call, the accused said that he loves her and wanted to meet her,” added an officer.

The woman approached Shivaji Park police station.

After registering an FIR, the accused was traced on the basis of the CDR location obtained from his phone number.

A police team was dispatched to his Sewri residence and the accused was nabbed.

The accused is a BA graduate and had recently left his job at a call centre.

Senior police inspector Gangadhar Sonawane from Shivaji Park police station said, “We have to act promptly on every case of crime against woman. Accordingly, we took cognisance of the case which was registered earlier this week and arrested the accused on the next day.” The accused has been booked under section 354 (D) (stalking) of the Indian Penal Code.

The accused was later produced in court and released on bail.
