Locals and police rush injured to hospital nearby; officials in the process of identifying victims of accident
Three people died and seven others were injured after two cars collided on Mumbai-Pune Expressway on Wednesday. The accident took place near Khalapur in Raigad district, around 35 km from Panvel.

The police said, nine students of a Thane school were going on a picnic in a theme park at Khalapur when the incident occurred.
As they were crossing Kumbivli village near Khalapur around 9.30 am, Shah lost control on the wheel. The car first rammed into a divider and then crashed into a car. While six of the students suffered injuries, two of them — Subham Borade, 19, and Amit Tawde, 19 — died.
Three people were travelling in the other car. One of them — 51-year-old Anand Parikh — died in the accident and the other two suffered injuries. “The injured were rushed to MGM hospital in Kamothe. The condition of one students, Subham Palande, 19, deteriorated and he was shifted to the ICU. The other five suffered minor injuries and were discharged after a few hours,” said SB Thakur, police sub-inspector from Khalapur police station.
The bodies of the deceased were sent to a government hospital in Khalapur for postmortem and were later delivered to their respective families. The postmortem reports are yet to come. Thakur said, “The students who suffered injuries have told us that their car had suffered a tyre blast just a few seconds before the accident.”
The police have booked Adil Shah, 18, one of the students who was driving the car.
