On Thursday, officials of the Property Cell lay a trap based on a tip-off, said Dilip Sawant, deputy commissioner of police (DCP). He was remanded in police custody till May 3.

The complainant is a 66-year-old Bandra resident. “Shirke told the complainant that he could help the complainant win the Mhada lottery. The complainant paid him a commission of 20 lakh,” said inspector Sunil Bazare of Property Cell. Once the complainant learnt that the documents Shirke gave him were forged, he filed a complaint with Pant Nagar police station. Meanwhile, the Property Cell launched a parallel investigation.
