BMC cancels leaves of employees in view of civic polls
At least 50,000 employees will be roped in to conduct the election process smoothly
To prepare for the civic elections scheduled early next year, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has cancelled the leaves of its employees and officers.
“With an aim to avoid inconveniencing Mumbaiites during the preparatory phase of elections, the civic chief has cancelled these leaves,” said a civic official.
There will be around 8,000 polling centres across the city. To conduct the elections smoothly, the BMC needs at least five employees at every centre, he said.
“Apart from this, the civic administration will need to keep 10% of its workforce on stand-by. According to estimates, at least 50,000 employees will be roped in to conduct the election process smoothly,” said the officer.
“This is why leaves will not be granted to any of the municipal employees and officers. All the corresponding heads have been informed,” he added.
