The failure was reported at 4:03pm, after which 14 services on the main line were cancelled.

“The signal was set right by 4:28pm and the services are gradually coming back to normal,” said Sunil Udasi, CPRO, Central Railway.

The spokesperson added that they are yet to ascertain the exact reason behind the signal failure, and said that the services will normalise before peak rush hour.

The glitch, if not fixed at the earliest, could affect the peak-hour services, leaving thousands stranded.

According to CR commuters, the announcements at the stations claim the services on the fast line are delayed.

Currently, both CR and WR operate more than 2,900 suburban services that more than 75 lakh commuters use every day. But commuters still struggle to find space on these trains and face frequent disruption of services.
