A man working as a cashier at a Nallasopara hotel was seriously injured after two unidentified men shot him on Sunday afternoon and left a note reportedly bearing gangster Suresh Pujari’s name and contact number.

The cashier, Deepak Yadav, 28, was admitted to Wockhardt Hospital at Mira Road. He is said to be critical.

The two men entered Galaxy Bar and Restaurant near the state transport bus depot. They told Yadav that they wanted to speak to the restaurant owner. When he refused to answer, they shot him in the chest and left on a bike.

The Nallasopara police registered a case against the two men under section 307 (attempt to murder) of the Indian Penal Code and sections 3,and 25 of the Arms Act.

“We have CCTV camera footage of the hotel, which clearly shows the two men entering the hotel and shooting Yadav,” said a police officer.

He added that an old enmity could have been the reason for the attack. An officer said investigations were ongoing.
