The Mumbai customs have seized 2,250 cartons of a Chinese cigarrette brand that was being smuggled into the city.

The Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) said the consignment of WIN cigarrattes arrived from Dimapur (Nagaland) through cargo. This is the second such case — the AIU seized 1,500 cartons of the brand last week.
“An initial probe led to one Sunil Sibramanian, who has been arrested,” said a customs officer. Sources said the customs had detected that the smuggling goods were being sold in Goa. The brand is smuggled by land from Myanmar, to Dimapur and then Mumbai through Kolkata.
Officials suspect a chain of people are involved. Cigarette brands smuggled in do not carry the mandatory pictorial warning covering 85% of the space on the packet.
