Cops find 10kg ammonium nitrate, detonators in Mumbai, suspect links to terror group

The police have arrested four men who work as road contractors

Thane police detained four men early on Monday for storing 10kg of ammonium nitrate and detonators in a vehicle in Mumbra. Police said the materials were highly explosive. They suspect the involvement of terror groups.

They added that the four accused work as contractors. They were caught when the Kalyan railway protection force, the crime branch, the anti-terrorism squad and the local police force raided an under-construction building in Thane. “Acting on a tip-off, we searched the vehicle and found the explosives. Though we know the accused are road contractors, we are trying to establish their identities,” said an officer from Thane commissionerate.

“We are examining CCTV camera footage of the spot,” he added.

“We suspect that the explosives were left in the vehicle a week ago. We are trying to determine where they came from. We have also raided a few other places in Maharastra,” said another officer.
