The Powai police have solved an alleged kidnapping case of a three-year-old boy within 12 hours of receiving a complaint from their parents. The spot from where the boy was kidnapped is in Tunga village, the same place where a four-year-old girl was allegedly raped and murdered in March last year.
According to the Powai police, the three-year-old boy Adarsh Yadav, a resident of Varsha Tunga village, a huge slum pocket in Powai, was picked up by a woman while he was playing near his residence around 7pm on March 5, said the cops.
The parents looked for him everywhere and finally lodged a missing complaint around midnight. As per Supreme Court guidelines, the Powai police registered a case of kidnapping under section 363 of IPC.
A special team was formed along with detection officers from Andheri police station, who went through the CCTV recordings in the area and spotted a woman picking and carrying away the boy. The police used their informers and local residents and traced the woman.
The Powai police then identified her relatives and traced them down. With their help they nabbed the woman near a railway station in Turbhe in Navi Mumbai. The boy was safely rescued from her and she, her husband and their 12-year-old daughter were brought to the police station and placed under arrest.
The arrested accused are identified as Ravi Singh, 36, his wife Geeta Ravi Singh, 34, and their 12-year-old daughter. They are from Karnal in Haryana. “We are happy that we solved the case within 12 hours. The place from where the boy was picked up is the same where a year a go a minor was raped and murdered. That’s why we were very worried,” said senior inspector Bhai Mahadeshwar.
The arrested accused used to sell medicines from a tempo traveller. They took the boy in the vehicle. The accused will be produced before a magistrate’s court on Tuesday. Their daughter will be handed over to the Child Welfare Committee.
