A couple died in an accident at Ulhasnagar on Wednesday when a speeding water tanker crashed into their bike. After investigation, the police found that the couple was allegedly killed by their three relatives over a land dispute.

Vasudev Shedre, 50, and his wife Rekha, 40, were on their way to attend a wedding when the accident took place. S Jadhav, police inspector, Shivaji Nagar police station, said, “The accident took place at Hill Line area in Ulhasnagar. The couple was taken to hospital but was declared dead. The nephew told the police that he suspected three of his relatives for the murder.”

The water tanker driver, Arvind Kumar Munne Kori, 22, was arrested on Thursday. Kori, who confessed to the crime, named the three who conspired to bump the couple off.

The couple and their relatives had been fighting over a plot of land in Ambernath, said Jadhav. The accused are suspected to be hiding at a relative’s house. A case under section 302 (punishment for murder) and 120b (punishment of criminal conspiracy) of the IPC has been registered against the accused.
