Dahi handi celebrations in Mumbai: 1,729 motorists flouted traffic rules

The traffic police penalised 1,729 motorists for flouting traffic rules, collecting Rs1.09lakh, on dahi handi on Wednesday.

According to Mumbai traffic police, of the 1,729 cases, 505 were for illegal parking.

Around 208 bikers were penalised for riding without a helmet, 24 for rash driving and 51 held for drink driving.

“It was a dry day because of Independence Day, so cases of drink driving were fewer,” said an inspector from the Mumbai traffic police division.
