Demonetisation after-effect: Mumbai temple gets Rs3 crore in scrapped notes

The Shri Sai Baba Shirdi Sansthan, managing one of the most revered temples in the country, received Rs3 crore in scrapped notes of Rs1,000 and Rs500 denominations after the government’s demonetisation move, the temple trust officials said on Monday.

Following demonetisation, temples have been asked to submit a report of the donated currency notes for the duration of November 8 to 24.

Sai Baba Sansthan Trust chairman Suresh Haware told reporters here that, “The Union government has asked the temples to declare the details of scrapped notes donated in the donation box. The trust received Rs1.27 crore in the denomination of Rs1,000 and Rs1.57 crore in the denomination of Rs500.”

There are 47 donation boxes inside the temple that are opened daily in front of the devotees and trust, Haware said.
