Eleven students from institute in South Mumbai hurt after road accident
The students, who were aged around 20 to 23, were on their way back to their hostel from their campus in Colaba.
At least eleven students of the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR) sustained minor injuries in a mishap on the Eastern freeway on Wednesday night, when the bus driver lost control and rammed into a divider.
The accident occurred at 10pm on the north-bound stretch of the freeway, ahead of the tunnel near Panjarpol junction, said an officer from the RCF police station.
“The driver told us that he felt giddy and lost control, but we suspect that he may have dozed off,” said Shrikant Desai, senior police inspector, RCF police station.
“While most students sustained minor injuries, one of them sustained fractures from the impact,” Desai added.
The students, who were aged around 20 to 23, were on their way back to their hostel from their campus in Colaba. They were rushed to a nearby hospital, and discharged after medication.
While the police have noted the incident, no case has been registered yet. The accident could have been far more worse had the bus jumped the divider as there was incoming traffic from the opposite direction, said the police.
