Officials told PTI the fire broke out around 1am at a dilapidated Navrang studio -- which was shut years ago -- in Todi Mill Compound at Senapari Bapat Marg.

Eight fire engines, seven tankers and an ambulance were rushed to the spot. The exact reason behind the fire was yet to be ascertained.

An ANI report said a fire officer was injured in the blaze, which was later brought under control.

“The studio building is old, unoccupied and precious,” an official told PTI.

“This building has not been functional for nearly 20 years now. The fire broke out in the fourth floor of the building,” ANI quoted deputy chief fire officer R Chaudhary as telling reporters.

Reports said the condition of the building was poor, and it can collapse at any time.

On December 29, a fire broke out in the Kamala Mills Compound in same locality in central Mumbai in which 14 people were killed and more than 21 injured.
