Foreign national kills self, jumps off 11th floor of Mumbai building

Police officers said that the man’s name and address or country is not known as no ID was recovered from him.

An unidentified foreign national committed suicide by jumping off the 11 floor of a Cuffe Parade building on Wednesday morning. The man had gone to Maker Chambers 5 in search of the Romanian Embassy.

Rashmi Jadhav, senior police inspector of Cuffe Parade police station said at 11am, on Wednesday, they received a call from the building authorities informing them about a suicide. On reaching the spot, they rushed him to GT Hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival.

The employees from 11th floor office told the police that the man had come and inquired about the Romanian embassy, which has been shifted to Delhi.

“The man left, but returned again telling the employees that the embassy was in fact in the same building. However, when he was told that the address of the embassy had not been updated on Google, he left without an argument,” said Jadhav.

“We found a railway ticket, from Goa to Mumbai. The man did not have any money or ID on him,” Jadhav said. A vendor near the building told the police that minutes before entering the building he had ordered a sandwich, but was unable to eat it as he was shivering. “The vendor told us that he seemed to be in an inebriated state,” said Jadhav.

The police have registered a case of accidental death and are investigating further.
