In Mumbai: 13-year-old run over by railway train

A 13-year-old boy was run over by a speeding Borivli-bound fast train, while he was crossing the tracks at Santacruz railway station on Monday afternoon, the police said.

A case of accidental death report has been registered.

The boy, Faizan Farooq Sayyed, a resident of Dhamu nagar, Bhim nagar in Kandivali (East), was travelling on a Churchgate-bound slow local train.

According to the Bandra government railway police (GRP), the incident took place around 2.30pm between platform no. 2 and platform no.3.

It is not clear where he was headed and he was not wearing a school uniform.

His father is a labourer. The police are checking the CCTV cameras to ascertain the exact sequence of events.

Hindustan Times had earlier reported how 1,798 of the 3,202 railway deaths in 2016 were because of crossing the railway deaths.

It means on an average five people were killed daily last year while crossing the railway tracks.
