Mumbai city news: The city has received 941.8mm rain since June 1, while the average till July 17 is 989mm.

While the Colaba weather station, representative of south Mumbai, recorded 64.2mm rain, the Santacruz weather station, representative of the suburbs, recorded 46mm rain, between 8.30pm Sunday and 8.30am Monday.

Under the weather department’s classification, 15.6mm to 64.4mm of rain is considered ‘moderate’, 64.5mm to 115.5mm is ‘heavy’, 115.6mm to 204.4mm is ‘very heavy’ and more than 204.5mm is ‘extreme’.

The rains narrowed the gap between the actual and average rainfall levels in Mumbai. The city has received 941.8mm rain since June 1, while the average till July 17 is 989mm.

The Konkan coast, including Mumbai and Pune, recorded heavy overnight rain, said officials from the weather department.

“The north Konkan coast has witnessed widespread overnight showers, with 76% to 100% stations recording heavy rain. We expect this continue through the week,” said KS Hosalikar, deputy director general, western region, India Meteorological Department.
