A notice sent to Peter Mukerjea by his wife Indrani seeking divorce seemed to be the culmination of many run-ins, suggest a series of email exchanges documented as a part of the charge-sheet in the Sheena Bora murder case.

Both are accused of being involved in the murder of Sheena Bora, Indrani’s daughter from a previous relationship.

Peter and Indrani’s love story first bloomed in a plush bar in a five-star hotel in south Mumbai. But after 10 years of marriage, their relationship started souring as Peter’s children from his first marriage raised questions over her interference in their personal lives.

The union further strained after Sheena Bora, who was in a relationship with Peter’s son Rahul, was murdered in April 2012. The couple’s exit from INX Media in 2009, a media firm which they had co-founded, widened the chasm between them.

However, the frosty relationship briefly thawed. But Indrani’s arrest in August 2015 in the Sheen Bora murder case proved to be the final straw, and left the union irrevocably wrecked. She is accused of murdering her daughter Sheena Bora.

Before his arrest in the case, Peter told the media that he was introduced to Sheena as Indrani’s sister and that he never knew the truth.

This was corroborated in statements given by Peter’s son Rahul to the Khar police and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

As the trial started in 2016, there have been talks of Peter and Indrani filing for a mutual consent divorce on various occasions.
