Man gets 5 years in jail for raping minor step daughter

A probe into the case showed that in March last year, the man raped his step-daughter in their Nalasopara house, after her mother left for work .

A Vasai court has sentenced a man to five years of rigorous imprisonment for raping his 12-year-old step daughter in their home last year. RM Pradhan, the sessions judge,also imposed a fine of Rs7,000 or an additional six months in jail on the convict.

A probe into the case showed that in March last year, the man raped his step-daughter in their Nalasopara house, after her mother left for work . When her mother returned, the girl told her about the rape, after which a complaint was filed at the Tulinj police station. The man was arrested under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act and sent to the Thane central jail.

Public prosecutor Ujwala Moholkar said three witnesses, including the survivor, a neighbour and the mother were examined by the court before it pronounced the verdict.
