The man, Akshay Karkhile, had checked into Sai Satara lodge with a woman a few hours before the incident, said police. After checking in, the two had a fight. “Around 2.30 pm the woman went to the washroom, attached to their room. When she came out after a few minutes, she found the man hanging from the ceiling fan. He committed suicide with her dupatta. The girl informed the management and they called us,” said Rajendra Galande, senior police inspector, APMC police.

The motive behind the suicide is unclear. The cops have sent the body to NMMC hospital in Vashi for a post-mortem and registered an accidental death case.

“The man and woman studied in the same college in Mumbai. She was upset that he took her to the lodge, but we don’t know if that caused the fight,” another police officer said.
