Motorcyclist in Mumbai arrested for running over senior citizen on expressway

A 36-year-old motorcyclist was arrested on Saturday after his bike ran over a senior citizen out on a morning walk along the Eastern Express Highway, killing him.
According to the police, the accused, Sudarshan Dhake was headed towards Govandi and was allegedly speeding the motorcycle when he lost control and crashed into the victim.
Dhake, in his statement to the police said he was riding his bike when he accidentally crashed into the victim, Damodar Murti Chandane.
The police officers said that Dhake, who works at a private company in Chembur called up the police control room and leaving his bike on the spot, rushed the victim to Shivaji Hospital in Chembur. However, Chandane was declared dead during the treatment.
Chandane, was a resident of Chembur and a labourer. On Saturday morning, he was walking towards Chembur Naka.
Chandane used to meet his friends there and spend some time reading newspapers at the newspaper stand.
“After the morning walk Chandane used to go out looking for work as a contract labourer,” said an officer from the Govandi police station.
The police have booked Dhake for rash and negligent driving and death due to negligence.
