Mumbai building collapse: She saw Ghatkopar structure shake, then crumble
Ghatkopar residents speak: Geeta Ramchandani, 58, has been staying there for over two decades with her husband Lalchand.
Geeta Ramchandani, 58, is one of the oldest residents of the building.
She has been staying there for over two decades with her husband Lalchand.
Lalchand had just left home when the building started shaking.
“My wife thought the building was shaking because of the repair work on the lower floors, but she looked out of the window just to confirm,” Lalchand said.
“She told me she saw the entire building come down, before she got trapped,” said Lalchand.
Geeta was stuck under the rubble for more than two hours before the firefighters and rescue operators were able to reach her and pull her out of the debris.
“I had just reached the gate and was on my way to work when I saw the building crumble. Fortunately, my wife survived and she is well, but the offenders need to be brought to justice,” Lalchand said.
