Ramesh Awate, who is posted in Mumbai, is apparently seen in a viral video driving a car with a man struggling to get away from his way near an ice-cream shop in Pachpakdi in Thane. The man is seen pointing a finger and apparently pleading but Awate speeds up the car.
“The two have a financial dispute. On April 21, Awate started clicking Pethe’s pictures, which led to an altercation. Pethe stood in front of Awate’s car, demanding he delete the pictures. But Awate drove off, dragging Pethe up to a few meters,” said D Swamy, deputy commissioner of police, zone 1, Thane police.
Awate, who is in his thirties, has been served a notice and police will soon record his statement, said sources. “The incident took place on April 21. An FIR was filed on April 22; further probe is on,” said Swamy.
The man Awate allegedly tried to run over has been identified as businessman Atul Pethe, 31.
