The arrested accused Hemant Nimbalkar is a resident of BDD Chawls, Worli. On May 17, a scooter went missing from the jurisdiction of NM Joshi Marg police station after which a case of theft was registered under section 379 (punishment for theft) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

“Footage from a private CCTV made it clear that Nimbalkar had committed the crime. He was nabbed on May 31,” said Uttam Ghegadmal from NM Joshi Marg police station. “He said he took the scooters at night just for joy rides. He then left the stolen scooter at Nagpada after it ran out of petrol. Later, he refilled the tank and brought the scooter back to his residence,” police said. “He has been remanded in judicial custody and we have also taken him in custody for another case,” Ghegadmal said.
