A 16-year-old boy died in a freak firecracker mishap that took place at Antop Hill. According to the police, the incident occurred during a procession that was underway on Sunday night.

“The teenager got an iron pipe that was closed from one end. He inserted a sutli (rope) bomb at the other end and lit it. However, the bomb exploded close to his chest,” said N Ambica, deputy commissioner of police, Zone 4.

The impact of the explosion was such that it damaged the teenager’s liver. Though the victim was rushed to a nearby hospital, he was declared dead on arrival. Another person also sustained injuries in the mishap.

Cops have registered an accidental death report (ADR) in this matter and are investigating the case.
