A 17-year-old youth was shot dead by one of his friends in a drunken brawl in Nalla Sopara, early on Friday. To hide the murder, his friends hid the body in a fridge.
Waliv police have arrested one of the friends while two are absconding.
Bhumak, a resident of Thane, lived with his mother Kavita. He had gone to his friend’s, Deepak Malik, house on Thursday to celebrate the latter’s birthday at Vanotipada in Nalla Sopara. Bhumak had informed his mother of the celebration. His other friends, Kailas Wagh and Anil Singh had also gathered at Malik’s house for the celebration.
“When Bhumak did not answer his mother’s calls on Thursday she went to Malik’s house on Friday afternoon. After inquiring about Bhumak and searching the house, she found her son’s body inside the fridge,” said Sanjay Hazare, police inspector, Waliv police station.
She then registered a complaint with the Waliv police. The police arrested Wagh, who had mistakenly shot Bhumak with a pistol during a drunken feud. The bullet had entered Bhumak’s neck.
“The other two accused are absconding and we have arrested one of the accused for murder under Section 302 and also applied the Arms Act,” he said.
“All the accused are unemployed and have a criminal record. We are in search of the other two accused and we will produce the arrested accused before the Vasai court on Saturday. We are also awaiting the post mortem report,” the officer added.
