The Andheri police nabbed 10 minors on Tuesday and produced them before a juvenile court in Dongri for allegedly sexually assaulting a 12-year-old boy at a slum pocket in Andheri (East) on multiple occasions. The victim underwent tests at a government hospital, and is said to be stable.

The Andheri police said the victim and the accused live in the same area. The boy was sexually abused several times over the past few months. The accused video-recorded the crime on a cell phone and threatened to make it public if he informed anyone about the abuse.

The accused also coaxed the victim into paying them. The minor was initially abused by select members of the group, which increased over time.

The police said a local NGO worker learnt about the abuse. Following this, the NGO sought the consent of the victim’s parents and took him to the Andheri police station. The police registered an FIR under section 377 (unnatural offences) of the Indian Penal Code and section 8 (sexual assault) and 12 (sexual harassment) of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.
