From the first week of September, six air conditioned (AC) local train services will run on these routes every day.

Western Railways officials said they two of these services will run in the morning peak hour, two in afternoon and two during the evening peak hour.

Meanwhile, the railway ministry, which is finalising the fare for AC local trains is considering keeping it on the lines of the fare structure of the Delhi metro — Rs15 for a 2-5 km, Rs20 for 5-12 km, Rs 30 for 12-21km and Rs40 for 21-32 km.

The minimum fare on the Delhi metro is Rs10, the maximum Rs45. The railway board will finalise the fare structure of the AC locals by the end of this month, sources said.

WR authorities, however, said operating the AC train in the morning peak hour will be a challenge. “If there is a technical glitch on the train, the entire section will be affected. But, we are going ahead and taking this risk,” said a WR official.

The route has been fixed as the WR is targeting corporates and professionals who use the first class. The country’s first AC local train arrived in the city last year and has being going through a series of trials.
