SP’s Abu Azmi declares assets worth ₹209 crore

Sitting Member of Legislative Assembly and Samajwadi Party candidate from Mankhurd Abu Asim Azmi may turn out to be one of the richest candidates in the Assembly elections, with his total assets, along with that of his spouse, reaching a whopping ₹209 crore. Azmi’s assets saw a jump of 33.93%, compared to his assets declared (₹156 crore) in 2014.

According to his affidavit, filed on Tuesday, Azmi’s total individual assets are worth ₹195 crore, whereas total assets of his spouse are worth around ₹14 crore. The source of his income is manpower consultants, running hotels, director in companies and investments in firms. However, Azmi has declared liabilities worth ₹9.09 crore.

Further, the affidavit reveals a total of 11 criminal cases pending against him, which includes cases of extortion, sales tax irregularities, provocative speech, criminal intimidation, assault and rioting pending against him.

Meanwhile, Akhil Bhartiya Sena (ABS) candidate Geeta Gawli, the daughter of Arun Gawli, declared assets worth ₹3.37 crore. This also includes the assets of her husband, Ajay. She has movable assets worth ₹2.02 crore, along with bank deposits and her financial policies. She owns two vehicles valued at ₹55 lakh. The immovable properties are worth ₹1.35 crore.
