Thane man held two days after attacking wife
The accused insisted that his wife give their daughter to his sister, who did not have a child of her own
Two days after a man attacked and severely injured his wife as she did not want his sister to adopt their daughter, the accused was held in Mumbra in Thane on Friday.

The man Somesh Kadam, 23, works as a rickshaw driver in Thane.
The police said Somesh and his wife Bharti, 20, had a heated argument on Wednesday night at their house in Retibunder in Mumbra as their five-month-old daughter had been crying. Somesh insisted that Bharti give their daughter to his sister, Swati, as she did not have a child of her own, despite trying to conceive for several years. Police suspect that Somesh did not want a daughter and was thus pressing the issue.
During the fight, Bharti told Somesh that if he kept reiterating his stance, she would leave the house and divorce him. This angered Somesh and he slashed Bharti’s face and other parts of her body with a knife. He fled.
Bharti was rushed to a civil hospital in Kalwa, where she is currently undergoing treatment.
“Somesh had been hiding at his relative’s house. He returned home on Friday to enquire about the situation. We got a tip-off and nabbed him at the spot. He was produced in court and has been remanded in police custody till December 13,” said Neha Suryawanshi, investigating officer.
