Two Cidco officers, three agents held for selling land illegally near Mumbai

According to the police, Cidco had reserved plot no 53/5 at Sector 20B for some projects under its 12.5% scheme. Nazir Shailkh, 47, chief land surveyor of Cidco and Dattatray Mukadam, 51, an official from the land allotment department, allegedly sold the plot to a private firm in 2016.

The crime branch arrested two officers of the City and Industrial Development Corporation (Cidco) and three other agents for allegedly selling a plot on the basis of fake documents at Airoli, near Mumbai.

During investigation, the police learnt that the officials, along with three agents, also procured permission from NMMC to construct a building on that plot and sold it after that. (HT)

According to the police, Cidco had reserved plot no 53/5 at Sector 20B for some projects under its 12.5% scheme. Nazir Shailkh, 47, chief land surveyor of Cidco and Dattatray Mukadam, 51, an official from the land allotment department, allegedly sold the plot to a private firm in 2016.

Nitin Kasaudikar, assistant commissioner of police (crime), said, “After senior officials of Cidco learnt about it, they immediately verified the documents and realised that they were fake. They approached our economic offence wing (EOW) and registered an FIR under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code.”

During investigation, the police learnt that the officials, along with three agents, also procured permission from NMMC to construct a building on that plot and sold it after that.

“While the agents did all the ground work on the deal, the Cidco officials were helping them in making the documents. We first arrested the agents — Prabhakar Mhatre, 51, Sunil Phadke, 40 and Lavesh Jadhav, 37,” the officer said.

During interrogation, the police came to know of the involvement of the Cidco officers in the scam and arrested the two officials on Friday. They were produced before the judicial court and have been remanded in police custody till May 15.

Another officer from the economic offence wing said, “We are still investigating the matter to find out if others were involved. If we find evidence against anyone, he or she will be arrested immediately.”
