Worker falls to death at construction site in Mumbai

The victim was working on the 7th floor of the upcoming Kamaldatta building, located on JP Road in Andheri.

A 23-year-old construction worker was killed after he fell from an under-construction building in Andheri (West) in yet another incident of negligence.

The victim, identified as Shankar Majhi, was working on the 7th floor of the upcoming Kamaldatta building, located on JP Road in Andheri. Majhi was working near the lift duct. However, the area was not covered up.

The incident took place around 11pm on Wednesday. As Majhi was working, he lost his balance and fell into the duct.

“Our investigations found there were no adequate safety measures taken, as the construction was ongoing. We have registered a case of causing death due to negligence after our investigation revealed the lapse,” said an officer from DN Nagar police station.

This is not the first such incident in the recent months, and only continues to add up to the list of persons killed at construction sites due to negligence.

On January 9, a 19-year-old construction labourer died after a cement block from an from an under-construction building in Borivli (West) landed on his head. The MHB Colony police had registered a case and arrested two persons following the incident. In December, a 35-year-old construction labourer died at an upcoming building in Borivli (East). The victim, Sattaki Alijuddin Shaikh, was working on the sixth floor of the building when he lost his balance and fell.
