After inquiries into the roads and desilting scams, the civic chief has now ordered one against the building proposals (BP) department, considered to be one of the most corrupt in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).

“I have asked them to submit a report in 15 days,” said Ajoy Mehta, municipal commissioner.

The civic body has received complaints from developers about allegedly delayed approvals for their proposals, mainly in the western suburbs.

An executive engineer from the department was also transferred last week in this regard, said senior officials.

According to officials, the maximum number of complaints was received from projects being handled by BR Raut, an executive engineer in the K-West ward (Andheri).

He has now been transferred to the building maintenance department, they said.

Mehta has asked chief engineer, BP, and the vigilance department to inspect all the pending approvals.

A senior civic official, who did not wish to be named, said, “We have been asked to examine all the pending approvals, the reasons for their delay and those responsible for it.”

The vigilance department officials were also seen scrutinising files on Tuesday at the BP department’s office in Bandra, said a source.
