MUMBAI: In the second such case in as many days, a woman traffic constable was allegedly injured and stopped from carrying out her duty. Her teammate was allegedly slapped twice.

Rita Jadhav, 49, was sent to tow vehicles near Paradise cinema in Mahim, after complaints from residents of the area and MP Husain Dalwai that the vehicles were being parked there illegally. They towed one vehicle and were towing another when one of the accused , Mohammad Shakil Abdul Karim Shaikh, 54, came to the spot and got into a heated argument with one of the towing staff, Mohammad Shaikh.

According to the police, Shakil said “ yeh meri garage ki gaadiyan hai. Tu nahi samjhega” (this is my garage, you won’t understand) and went on to abuse Shaikh and slap him twice. The second accused, Shakil’s aide Mustaq Shaikh tried to stop the team towing the vehicle, and in the process, hit Jadhav on her hand and abused her.

Jadhav got off the vehicle and started chasing Mustaq, but he ran off threatening he will get back. Jadhav then contacted the police control room and a police van from Mahim police was dispatched to the spot. Both men were later arrested and remanded in custody.

An FIR has been registered under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, including for sexual harassment and for stopping a public servant from discharging.
