MUMBAI: The Tumsar police booked Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Ramchandra Avsare for reportedly abusing and slapping a police constable in Bhandara on Wednesday evening. A video of the incident, which took place in the presence of a senior police official, was recorded on a mobile camera.

In the video, Avsare is seen slapping constable Raju Sathwane, asking him why he beat up his driver. Sathwane can be heard saying that the driver had abused him. However, the enraged MLA slaps the constable as soon as he approaches.

Avsare denied slapping Sathwane. “In fact, the constable beat up our worker without any valid reason. We are lodging a complaint against him,” he said.

The incident took place after the concluding ceremony of the Tiranga Yatra, which commenced from Tiroda and culminated at Tumsar in Bhandara. Sathwane was accused of shoving and beating the MLA’s driver.

During the Yatra, the MLA’s driver stopped the car midway to click pictures of the event.

The policemen on security duty were irked by this.

The driver and Sathwane got into an argument over parking and a scuffle broke out. Sathwane allegedly took the driver to the Tumsar police station and beat him up for arguing with him and causing a traffic jam. The driver reported the matter to Avsare, who stormed into the Tumsar police station and slapped the constable.

The Tumsar police lodged a criminal case against the MLA for assaulting a police constable under sections 353, 505 and 34 of the Indian penal code.
