MUMBAI: Potholes, coupled with the continuous overnight rain, slowed down the traffic movement on the western express highway on Monday.

Motorists were struck for almost three hours on the stretch between Borivli and Andheri. Blaming the civic authorities for the chaos, the traffic police said they had notified the BMC about the potholes. The Kalanagar flyover was closed to traffic for pothole repairs on Saturday.
Officials in charge of traffic divisions in the western and northern region are currently posted at the congested patches to ease traffic movement on the south-bound lane of the WEH.
In another incident, a car caught fire on the flyover in Goregaon (East), affecting the traffic movement further.
The Mumbai traffic police said a sedan caught fire near Hub Mall on the northbound stretch of the flyover. The fire brigade was alerted around 11.15am. “The fire was doused in time. No casualty was reported,” a fire official said.
A tree collapsed on a parked car at Veera Desai Road in Andheri (West). No one was injured in the accident, said a traffic police officer.
