NEW DELHI: Thanks to the Supreme Court, the BCCI has agreed to include more northeastern states in cricket’s fold. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will be announcing its domestic calendar in the next few days and a combined team from the northeast is likely to be included in the season, which commences in October-November.

The Supreme Court had floated the idea of a combined team from the region in its July 18 verdict on the Lodha Committee report on the implementation of reforms in the BCCI.
Currently, only Assam and Tripura from Northeast are full members of the BCCI and play Ranji and other tournaments.
The north-eastern states are yet to hear from the BCCI, but are happy.
“We are ready but there has to be a tournament to select the combined team. We have not heard from the BCCI. The selection should be performance-based rather than on quota,” said Naba Bhattacharjee, secretary, Meghalaya Cricket Association.
