MUMBAI: Workers of the all India Kisan Sabha of the CPI (M) on Monday held protests outside the residence of guardian minister and minister for tribal development Vishnu Savara, at Wada.

The protestors demanded that the state government take steps to stop increasing number of malnutrition deaths in Palghar district, implementation of Forests Rights Act 2005 and of Mahatma Gandhi national rural employment scheme. They also demanded improvement of tribal ashram schools and hostels.

The protesters had written a letter to Savara on September 22 asking him to be present at his residence and he had also assured them of his presence along with the government officials.

The minister, however, was absent which led to angry protests and the police had to intervene to ensure no untoward incident takes place. CPI (M) leaders said they would not move from Wada unless Savara agrees to meet them.
