Garib Rath engine fails thrice, delays Gujarat trains

MUMBAI: The engine of the Mumbai-New Delhi bound 12216 Up Garib Rath failed not once but thrice near Virar on Tuesday afternoon.

MUMBAI: The engine of the Mumbai-New Delhi bound 12216 Up Garib Rath failed not once but thrice near Virar on Tuesday afternoon.

The train reached Boisar somehow where the engine of a goods train was attached to it and it could proceed towards its destination.

The train left Borivli and after it crossed Virar around 1-45pm hrs, the engine failed. The on-board mechanics repaired it and when the train neared Vaitarna bridge, the engine failed for the second time.

Mechanics repaired the engine again and the train crossed the bridge, but the engine failed for the third time after covering about three kilometres.

The train reached Boisar and the engine of a goods train had to be attached to it around 3-30pm for it to proceed to New Delhi.

As a result, the long distance trains towards Gujarat were hit and Duronto Express,Surya Nagari Express, Karnavati.Express, Double Decker express, and Ahmedabad Passenger were delayed for nearly 2 hours.

Local trains between Virar and Dahanu were also affected because of the incident.

Ravinder Bhakar, CPRO, WR confirmed the incident and said traffic was delayed for a few hours because of the technical glitch in the Garib Rath Express.
