MUMBAI: The Kandivli police booked an 18-year-old and a 23-year-old and issued a warning to a woman for resorting to violence at Shatabdi hospital on Friday night.

The three, who were accompanying a patient, allegedly came to blows with the hospital’s security personnel and police officials as they accused the hospital of delays in treating the patient’s fever.
The incident took place when the two people, along with a woman, came to the civic-run hospital. According to sources, the scuffle started when they attempted to force their way into the casualty ward against the hospital’s security norms that have been formed keeping in mind the security of medical professionals, as well as to restrict overcrowding of sensitive wards.
“The group started arguing with the security personnel when they were advised to follow the rules. Soon, the argument turned to blows,” said Mukund Pawar, senior police inspector, Kandivli police station.
He added that when the police constable, Laxman Tadvi, stationed at the hospital intervened, the group physically abused him.
Dr Krishna Pimple, medical superintendent of the hospital, said that such matters have become frequent.
“We have a considerable footfall at the hospital and relatives of the patients often break into fights with the hospital staff when they are asked to wait. The security guards and police officials intervened in time and none of the staff was subjected to violence in this case,’ said Pimple. He added that the hospital staff managed to contain the issue.
Pawar said a case was registered under section 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty) and section 321 (voluntarily causing hurt) against the two people.
“The woman was issued a warning and let go according to the provisions of the law,” said Pawar.
