MUMBAI: An engineer on his way home from work nearly lost his eyesight after he was hit by a stone hurled at the train he was travelling in just as it was pulling

MUMBAI: An engineer on his way home from work nearly lost his eyesight after he was hit by a stone hurled at the train he was travelling in just as it was pulling into the Virar station.

Tushar Raut, 32, was on a Valsad fast train on Friday evening. He was standing on the foot-board, ready to get off the train at Virar station at 7.20pm when he was hit. “Luckily, I did not fall off the moving train,” Raut said.

Several passengers have been injured, some even killed on the city’s lifeline, by such incidents in the past.

“As it was dark, I could not see the miscreants clearly, but I did see a group of boys standing near the platform,” said Raut. The Vasai GRP has registered a complaint and a search is on to find the stone-throwers.

Raut was able to get timely medical help as GRP personnel were standing on the platform, right outside the first-class coach.

“I insisted on being taken to an eye specialist and got treatment,” said Raut. The doctor told him the stone had just missed vital parts of his eye.
