A dumper knocked down a pedestrian and injured two others after the driver lost control of his vehicle on Jogeshwari Vikhroli Link Road (JVLR) bridge, crashing into three vehicles on Saturday morning.
The incident took place around 8.45am on Saturday, when the driver, 23-year-old Pintu Yadav was driving the dumper which was carrying mud towards Borivli. After ascending the JVLR, Yadav lost control and knocked down Ashok Sinh, 48, an auto driver who was walking on the divider, said police.
The dumper, then drove over the divider and entered the southbound traffic before crashing into a Swift Dzire, Swift and another i10 vehicle before it lost balance and toppled.
According to the police, Sinh fell unconscious and had to be rushed to the nearby Rajawadi hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. But the drivers of the three cars sustained only minor injuries, said police.
The three persons in the cars including the owner of the Swift Dzire, Sharad Ahile, were discharged after being administered basic medication, said inspector Mahadev Wavale from Jogeshwari police station.
Wavale added that as soon as the dumper toppled, the driver and his accomplice, a cleaner, fled from the spot. The accused have been arrested on the charge of causing death due to negligence, rash driving and for failing to fulfil the duty of a driver in case of accident and injury to a person.
In another accident, a 20-year-old biker died on Saturday morning after he lost control of his two-wheeler and came under the rear wheels of a BEST bus at Andheri (east). The Sahar police have Vijay Nikalji, 37, arrested the driver for causing death due to negligence. The biker, identified as Irfan Khan lost control of his motorbike and fell on the road after which a BEST bus ran over him around 10am at Marol Naka on the Andheri-Kurla road. Khan, who worked at a cargo delivering agency, was rushed to Cooper Hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
