10 days more for admissions t0 Minority colleges

Admissions to colleges like Narsee Monjee, Mithibai, SIES and Somaiya, which are ‘minority’ colleges, will close only 10 days after the open category admissions date from the next academic year.

Admissions to colleges like Narsee Monjee, Mithibai, SIES and Somaiya, which are ‘minority’ colleges, will close only 10 days after the open category admissions date from the next academic year.

“This is being done to make sure that the reservation kept for religious minorities and linguistic minorities which is above 50 per cent is filled up for the said purpose. We will withdraw the status of colleges which are not following it,” said Minorities Minister Naseem Khan.

Khan said many of these ‘religious minority’ colleges tend to show vacant seats in the reservation quota and with government permission get them converted into management quota seats. Such seats mean more money for the institution.

“So if we give such colleges more time, then minority students who have not got through other colleges can come back and apply for these seats which are reserved,” he said.
