While the parents of the deceased, Rohit Gupta, were asleep and unaware that he had left home, his friend Mohsin Ansari told his parents that he was going for tuitions. The duo are residents of Dharavi.
The accident took place around 7.45am on Bandra flyover, near Western Express Highway. “A police patrol van saw the boys and took them to Bhabha hospital,” said S Kule, investigating officer from Bandra police station.
The police suspect that Gupta, who was driving the bike, lost control and crashed into the divider.
Gupta was declared dead on arrival; Ansari has sustained multiple fractures. “Gupta had borrowed the Bajaj Pulsar from a friend called Kamal. As per the Motor Vehicles Act, it is an offence to let a minor drive a vehicle. Kamal will be booked and fined Rs.1,500,” Kule said.
