19-yr-old held for robbing

A 19-year-old man who robbed a trader of Rs1.11 lakh was nabbed by the locals and beaten up black and blue before being handed over to the Mira Road police on Wednesday.

A 19-year-old man who robbed a trader of Rs1.11 lakh was nabbed by the locals and beaten up black and blue before being handed over to the Mira Road police on Wednesday.

The accused Junaid Hanif Syed, 19, and his friend were on a bike. They intercepted Vijay Shelar, a trader, and snatched his bag containing cash. Shelar raised an alarm and the locals caught hold of Syed but his accomplice identified Arif managed to flee.

“We are trying to ascertain if the duo have any past records. We have recovered the entire booty from Syed,” said a police officer.

Syed was produced in the court on Thursday and has been remanded to police custody till April 10.
