2 CISF men held for helping smuggle gold

In a seizure that has highlighted lax security at Mumbai’s international airport, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) and Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) of Mumbai Customs arrested two Central Industrial Securities Force (CISF) officials for allegedly assisting in the smuggling of 10 kg of gold worth Rs 3 crore.

In a seizure that has highlighted lax security at Mumbai’s international airport, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) and Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) of Mumbai Customs arrested two Central Industrial Securities Force (CISF) officials for allegedly assisting in the smuggling of 10 kg of gold worth Rs 3 crore.

CISF sub-inspectors Uday Singh Meena, 32, and Murarilal Meena, 35, were arrested. The agencies seized 5.5kg and 4.5kg gold from Jayant Mehta, 35 and Atul Bafna, 25, respectively of the same syndicate, trying to smuggle the gold from Dubai and hand it over to the two on-duty officials, who were to take it out of the airport. The DRI arrested the leader of the syndicate from south Mumbai. All the accused were released on bail in the evening.
