Taxis, autorickshaws, BEST buses and suburban railway services will ply as usual and employees at civic hospitals will report to work. The only service that could be affected is garbage collection, as the city’s conservancy workers will back the strike.

Private banks will remain open, but public sector banks are likely to be shut.

“All our unions will not take part in the strike because the Central government has appo-inted a group of ministers to look into our demands,” said Sharad Rao, president of Hind Mazdoor Sabha, a parent body of various municipal and trade unions in the state.

“We urge other unions to also discuss their problems with this committee instead of resorting to strike.” Rao’s federation has the maximum number of workers from the city affiliated to it.

The government had reached out to the union leaders on Monday with a committee comprising defence minister AK Antony, agriculture minister Sharad Pawar and labour minister Mallikarjun Kharge.
