Vice-Admiral Sanjeev Bhasin, flag officer commanding in chief of the Western Naval Command, on Wednesday, accused the state government of failing to act against the encroachments.

Sunder Nagar is close to a helicopter gunship base, while Gita Nagar is close to the naval base. There is also large-scale slum encroachment on defence land at Kalyan.

The Navy has asked the Director-General of Defence Estates to scrutinise defence property records in Mumbai and start acquiring the land.
