2 taxi drivers held at LTT for robbing passengers
Tilak Nagar police arrest two men from Shivaji Nagar for robbing two people headed to CBD-Belapur
Tilak Nagar police have arrested two taxi drivers from Lokmanya Tilak Terminus for robbing passengers.
The accused have been identified as Nivas Sangolkar, 30, and Shivaji Kolekar, 26. According to the police, the Shivaji Nagar residents have been operating taxis outside the terminus for the past four years.
An officer from Tilak Nagar police station, who did not wish to be named, said, “On February 18, two people who came to the city from Kolkata got into the taxi operated by Sangolkar and Kolekar. One of them drove the vehicle, while the other acted as the cleaner. They stopped the vehicle mid-day on pretext of taking on two more passengers. The four men ganged up against the two passengers near Belapur station and robbed them of Rs5,700.”
Following the incident, the two men approached the Belapur police station and the case was then transferred to the Tilak Nagar police station. Assistant police inspector Avinash Pore, along with his detection staff, was handed over the case. Sangolkar and Kolekar were arrested outside LTT on Wednesday.

“While the two men have not been forthcoming, we have gathered that they would set target people seemed unfamiliar with the city,” said an officer from the police station.
The accused have been booked under sections 392 (punishment for robbery) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the Indian Penal Code.
