Two youngsters were killed in two separate accidents in the past 48 hours.

Two youngsters were killed in two separate accidents in the past 48 hours.

While the police managed to arrest the driver of a tempo who ran over a 12-year-old boy at Powai, the man who allegedly killed a 14-year-old in Govandi is still absconding.

In the first incident, Rithesh Samuel, a Class 7 student, died when a truck carrying gas cylinders hit him from behind at Ashok Nagar in Marol, on Tuesday evening.

Samuel Kallimuthu, father of the deceased. said, “Rithesh and my elder son Dinesh, 15, left the house around 3pm to go for tuitions. An hour later we were informed that Rithesh had met with an accident.”

SV Kharat, inspector, Powai police station, said the brothers were walking towards their classes when truck driver Raju Bhuduprasad Varma, 30, hit Rithesh from behind.

“Varma rushed the boy to the Seven Hills Hospital at Marol. But the boy succumbed to his injuries due to severe internal bleeding,” said Kharat, adding that the truck driver was arrested from the hospital.”

Rithesh, whose family hails from Tamil Nadu, lived with his parents at Karuna Nagar area of Powai.

The second incident took place outside a dumping ground at Govandi where Shamsher Ali Shaikh, 14, was run over by a dumper around 9.30am on Wednesday.

According to Abdul Khalid Shaikh, father of the deceased, Shamsher was on his way to the common toilet when the incident took place.

“He was taken to the Rajawadi Hospital where he was declared dead on arrival. We have not managed to track down the accused. We are looking for eyewitnesses,” said DS Jodgudri, senior inspector, Shivaji Nagar police station.

Shamsher, who studied at a madrassa in Panvel, had come to his parents’ home at Rafique Nagar around a week ago.
